Sandro Innocenti, senior vice president and country manager of Prologis Italy, and Rossana Pinato, operations construction manager, recently welcomed a delegation from the Municipality of Milan to the food market in Milan to visit the construction site where they are building a new logistics building with LEED® Silver minimum environmental certification and class A offices. In addition to Mayor Giuseppe Sala, Deputy Mayor Anna Scavuzzo, the General Manager of the Municipality of Milan Christian Malangone, and the Director of the Food Policy of Milan Andrea Magarini were presentaccompanied by the President of So.Ge.Mi. Cesare Ferrero.
Our new speculative building is being created as part of the "Foody 2025" plan promoted by So.Ge.Mi. Spa, the company that manages all the city's wholesale food markets on behalf of the Municipality of Milan, should be completed by next May. The modern 11,700 square meter building represents an important base for all those companies in the agri-food sector interested in developing their urban logistics thanks to the centrality of the Market with respect to all areas of the city and its proximity to the East Ring Road.
The new building, named MILANO DC3, will therefore be able to meet the needs of the food industry and will be built to the highest international standards. It will also be equipped with the most advanced LED lighting technologies and photovoltaic panels that will ensure the full sustainability of the building in line with Prologis' objectives and the needs of customers, who are increasingly focused on reducing their CO2 emissions. The area will also be planted with shrubs and trees, and vertical green walls will be created in line with the requirements of the Landscape Commission. In addition, the building will be equipped with a large parking area in which half of the parking spaces will be served by electric vehicle charging stations.
The Foody 2025 plan aims to transform Milan's Agrifood Market into a real agrifood hub, attracting Italian and international companies and professionals in the agrifood sector and a point of reference for the tradition and excellence of "Made in Italy" in the world. The project envisages a progressive investment plan that will make it possible to develop a strategic area for the entire supply chain. As part of the project, two new Fruit and Vegetable Pavilions will be built; new logistics platforms, including our MILANO DC3, and production platforms that will be a reference point for goods handling activities; a renovated Palazzo Affari and support services such as laboratories and food training centres.
"We are particularly proud to be able to make our contribution to the realisation of a project that aims to give the city of Milan, Italy's food capital, a wholesale market that will offer innovative services for operators and consumers, conceived according to the values of food quality and safety, environmental sustainability and innovation," said Sandro Innocenti. "Our intervention represents a real urban regeneration project that will give new life to a forgotten corner of the Market".
