Prologis is to develop a new “urban” logistics platform for Milan’s Ortomercato We are currently preparing to build a new 11,700 m2 Class-A logistics platform for Milan’s Ortomercato (wholesale fruit and vegetable market), which will provide our customers with a new building for urban logistics close to the city centre.

The new logistics platform will be built to high international standards and have LEED® Gold environmental certification. Furthermore, it will be equipped with the latest LED lighting technologies and photovoltaic panels that will ensure the building is fully sustainable, in line with our objectives and those of our customers in terms of reducing CO2 emissions. In accordance with our ParkLife development philosophy, the site will also have green spaces, paths and leisure areas, as well as electric vehicle charging columns and ample parking.

We expect to start the work in the second quarter of 2021, and to deliver the building in the first quarter of 2022. Our new logistics platform is part of the “Foody 2025” initiative promoted by So.Ge.Mi, the company that manages all of Milan’s agri-food markets for the city authorities, and represents a full renovation of the fruit and vegetable market. The aim is to transform it into Italy’s biggest agri-food hub. Our work will be the start of a major urban regeneration project that will bring a forgotten corner of the area to life.

This new operation reflects our strategy of serving all our customers’ logistics needs, which includes developing last-mile “urban” logistics platforms. In addition to the development of the Milan Ortomercato, we have “build to suit” projects under way in the city’s via Fantoli and Cassina de’ Pecchi suburb, for leading agri-food operators such as Cortilia.
